3 Tips to Control your Time

by | Mar 24, 2026

Does your calendar control you?

When I mention Valhalla Ascend — my men’s retreat in May — CEOs often reply that they don’t have time..

“IF I can find the time, I’m in!” But it’s not a “time” problem. We all have 24 hours in a day.

It’s a calendar problem.

The issue isn’t hours. It’s desigining your calendar well enough to create time.

Implement these 3 easy hacks to create that time:

1. Protect your mornings for deep thinking.

Use your highest-energy hours for strategy and work that delivers shareholder value. Not email. Over the long-term, you accomplish much more.

2. Use the afternoon energy dip intentionally.

Energy drops after lunch. Don’t fight it. Stack less important meetings or group conference calls there. Even better — a workout between 2–4pm is a great reset.

3. Meetings are now only 30 minutes.

The 1-hour meeting is a relic of the past. Most conversations only need half the time. If a topic needs more time, just schedule another block!

Try it for two weeks. You won’t go back.

Creating time means designing a simple system that leverages your time. For now, your calendar is that system, so treat it like one.

warmly,
