Why did you work so hard to be successful?
Was it for financial security, to buy cool things, or to earn the respect of your peers?
I know one thing you wanted… Control of your time.
When we were young, our parents and teachers told us where to be and what to do. That sucked. So you promised yourself that one day you alone would be the master of your time.
Did you keep your promise?
Here’s what I’m observing: Many high-achieving friends who run big funds or companies don’t have control of their time. And that becomes obvious when I invite them to the Ascend retreat.
Even those who want to reflect on their lives, swim in the pond, and meet like-minded peers give me this (lame) excuse, “I don’t have the time!”
When you say this, you really may be saying:
- “Even after all my success, I don’t control my time.”
- “My family dictates my schedule, and it’s too difficult to push back.”
- “I’m afraid to reflect deeply, because maybe I’ll regret how I’ve spent the last 10 years.”
- “I’m overwhelmed with work! I’m not truly happy, but someday I’ll make time for myself… later.”
You’ve already created the wealth that your kids will inherit and charities will spend. That’s impressive.
So don’t YOU deserve just two short days to invest in yourself, reflect on the future, and regain control of your time?
Something to think about.
Best,
Navin
