Could 5 minutes per day be worth $50K?

During our last HBS mindset call, one classmate said his new morning routine increased his productivity by 30 minutes per day. He feels calmer, clearer and less distracted at work, which means getting home to his daughters earlier.

Thirty minutes per day adds up to three work weeks per year! That’s real money. Notably, the biggest feedback from HBS classmates was they felt happier and calmer all day, in addition to working smarter. It’s a win-win.

The 5-5-5 morning routine is simple and takes 5 minutes.

  1. Place a glass of water by your bed at night. Wake up. Drink it.
  2. Close your eyes in silence for 3 minutes at the side of your bed.
  3. In a journal, write down 1 specific thing you’re grateful for (a sunny day, your son’s health…)
  4. Write down the energy you choose to bring to your day (focus, empathy…)
  5. Take a cold shower. At the end of your hot shower, turn the water cold for 30-60 seconds.

That’s 5 steps in 5 minutes for 5 days per week. Easy, effective and free. What’s your excuse?
