Happy Validation Day!

by | Feb 20, 2025

Picture this: a former private equity partner on a cross-country flight reading a book called “Real Love.” A cringeworthy title, indeed.

But Sharon Salzberg has real wisdom:

“Feeling incomplete inside ourselves, we search for others to complete us.

But… we can’t gain from others what we’re unable to give ourselves.”

Basically, she’s saying that if we don’t love ourselves we can’t fully accept love from others. I wondered.. would this premise apply not just to love, but also to validation?

Observation: “External” validation never satisfies most achievers.

Have you ever noticed that wildly successful people oftentimes can’t stop reaching for the next trophy? After endless success, they still want that next title or deal.

For them, Enough is never enough. Sound like anyone you know?

There’s a simple explanation to this paradox…

No amount of external validation can fill an internal void.

So what will quell this hunger? Well, it’s obviously not more outward success! Instead, we must develop our capacity for internal validation, which means basing our self worth on metrics unrelated to the opinions of society or peers.

At my Valhalla Ascend retreat in April, we’ll work with this insight. We’ll experience techniques that improve your ability to be present, reduce outside noise, and unravel the addiction of external validation.

For men who understand that the next level has no trophies.

Hard to believe this is the 7th Valhalla Ascend. It’s also why we already have 8 joining and 2 spots left.

Dates: April 2nd (noon) to April 4th (noon)

Location: New York City

P.S. You’ve definitely mastered external metrics. What if you invested 48 hours in the internal game?
